We welcome individuals and families of all backgrounds to join Temple Beth Shalom. As America becomes more diverse, so does the Jewish community. Judaism intersects with so many diverse backgrounds and TBS is delighted to be a home to all.

Interfaith Families:

In 2013, a Pew study found that among non-Orthodox Jews, 71% marry someone who was not born Jewish. We want to make it clear that all families interested in connecting with Judaism are fully embraced. Whether you are Jewish, Atheist, a practicing non-Jew, or do not affiliate with another religion, you are welcome to be a part of our family.

Racial Diversity:

Temple Beth Shalom is committed to working towards racial equality, both in and out of the Jewish community. Jews of color comprise about 12% of the American Jewish community, but are often overlooked or unseen in these spaces. We are committed to the URJ’s Audacious Hospitality initiative, welcoming all people at synagogue and making sure everyone knows that they belong. Click here to learn more.

LGBTQIA+:

We firmly believe that all people are entitled to live a full and authentic life within our Jewish community.  TBS welcomes all people and all family structures to join us.

Disability:

Judaism must be accessible to all. Our building is easily accessible for people of all mobility. We have hearing assistance available for any who may need it.

We also work with students to make sure they have access to Hebrew school and B’nai Mitzvah. No one should be barred from this ritual because of a difference in learning. If you are concerned about your child learning Hebrew, please contact Rabbi Jessica to create a plan that works for your unique student.
