The TBS Sisterhood Book Group
The TBS Sisterhood book group meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month
from September 19 through June 19, 2025.
We meet in person from 7:15 - 8:45 PM at Fran and Sue’s home in Wakefield.
If there are concerns about an uptick in Covid or risky driving conditions, we’ll meet on Zoom. Each month a different book group member provides 3 book recommendations and the group votes on one.
On Thursday, March 20th, we’ll discuss the book,
Once We Were Brothers by Ronald H. Balson. Fran suggested the book.
Elliot Rosenzweig, a respected civic leader and wealthy philanthropist, is attending a fundraiser when he is suddenly accosted and accused of being a former Nazi SS officer named Otto Piatek, the Butcher of Zamosc. Although the charges are denounced as preposterous, his accuser is convinced he is right and engages attorney Catherine Lockhart to bring Rosenzweig to justice. Solomon persuades attorney Catherine Lockhart to take his case, revealing that the true Piatek was abandoned as a child and raised by Solomon's own family only to betray them during the Nazi occupaoccupation. But has Solomon accused the right man?
Fran says that she wanted to choose a book by a Jewish author, probably banned. She started reading this book a few days ago and I just can't put it down. ![]()

Do you know the whole megillah? Join Rabbi Jessica for a Purim learning event on Thursday March 6th at 7:30PM. Meet at the Rising Eagle pub at 505 Main St. in Melrose, and learn about the last chapter of Megilat Esther which discusses a wider war. We will explore what is happening here, why this is included in the story, and how we can understand it today. Snacks will be provided, drinks on your own. See you at the Rising Eagle!
