Grades 7 – 12

About the Program: As the generation of Holocaust survivors is dwindling, many of their children have taken over telling their families stories.  Rabbi Jessica Lowenthal, of Temple Beth Melrose, along with other children of survivors tell their parents stories.  Some were able to escape before ghettoization, others made it through camps, and all lost family. Our speaker’s families came from Germany, Austria, Hungry, and Poland. Rabbi Jessica weaves history in with the stories, beginning at the end of WWI so that each story has context and students understand the larger picture.  Some speakers have documents such as their family’s visas and passports, paperwork from inside their countries, school records, etc. These can be displayed and spoken about after the formal presentation.

Performance Logistics: Staff available to presenters 30 minutes prior to and throughout the performance; 3 microphones; Powerpoint presentation but no audio: Program approximately 90 minutes but can be tailored to accommodate school schedule.

Additional Information: The Holocaust Training program is a free program offered by Temple Beth Shalom of Melrose.  It is geared towards students in 7th – 12th grade and ideally goes along with the school’s curriculum.  However, we can create the context so anyone can understand the history. The presentation can be in an auditorium to a large group, or it can be within a classroom setting.
