Habonim Happenings

In August, the rabbi search committee (RSC) made a presentation to the TBS Governing Council on the direction of the rabbi search. Using results from a member survey from a few years ago, the recent Temple Talks, and other documents, the RSC is crafting a job posting for a full-time rabbi with education director responsibilities. The RSC believes this is the best approach, given the diverse needs and interests of the community, the clear desire for a more consistent clergy presence at TBS, and that many small U.S. synagogues employ similar models. The rabbi search will intensify after the High Holidays, with more updates to come.

In the meantime, please reach out to rabbi.search.tbs@gmail.com with specific questions.

As a reminder, the search committee includes:

Aaron Beitman
Serena Brown
Ellen Collins Krechmer
Emily Levine
Yael Mazor-Garfinkle
Michael Panis
Ron Serisky
Sara Serisky (ex officio)
Jim Taber
Bootsie Vaine

Singers Wanted

The TBS choir is getting ready for the High Holidays with rehearsals beginning the week of August 20. We are always looking for more singers, especially male voices!  Any member who can hold a tune is welcome to join.  Email our Cantorial Soloist Beth Purcell at: cantor@tbsma.org for more information.

High Holiday Bimah Flowers

Traditionally at TBS, a member of the community donates a flower arrangement in honor of a loved one that will adorn the bimah during high holiday services. If you would like to donate flowers this year, please email donations@tbsma.org.

Melrose Victorian Fair
Sunday, September 9, 11:00 a.m.

TBS will have a table at the Melrose Victorian Fair to speak with potential new members and tell them about our amazing little congregation. We need volunteers to staff the table for short shifts beginning at 11 a.m. We will wrap up early for Erev Rosh Hashanah. If you are willing to help, please contact Liza Weinstein at L.Weinstein@northeastern.edu.

Rosh Hashanah – Day 2

We want to make the 2nd day service for Rosh Hashanah more exciting this year. How do we do that? With food of course!  Ellen Krechmer has graciously volunteered to lead the oneg but she can’t do it alone! A few people who plan on being at this service are needed to help her and contribute a few food items. If you are willing to help, please contact Ellen at ellenk11@verizon.net.

If there is anything you would like to include in the TBS Weekly, please email president@tbsma.org.
